I mean really. How could they leave out The Arrogant Worms.

As I've mentioned before, I was the editor on this project an awfully long time ago. It was one of the last multi-machine synched edit projects we did at Imbi's and my post-house, Scene by Scene®. I think I was rolling six machines at a time - and we "sort of" cut this live.

That said, the Worms are much too much fun. And I often thought truth in advertising would have made "The Arrogant Worms" a great name for a Christian band...

And I do think that kinnon.tv could use a little humor arround here today, eh!

...(or the lack thereof), his new album is fantastic. Sparse yet majestic classical arrangements of some of his favourite songs by writers like Paul Simon, David Bowie, (my favourite band) Elbow, Neil Young and others.

A Little Christmas Sax

A Saxamaphone* Quartet led by George Furlow.

George (2nd from the left) is one of my closest male buddies. We became good friends on a trip to South Africa in 1996. We then went on to spend way too much time laughing together - whether in Pittsburgh, Toronto or points beyond. (And we worked together 50% of the time from 2002 - 2004 at the church where the above was recently recorded.)

George, and Baritone player/hilarious individual, Warren Yeckel both studied with Canadian saxaphonist Paul Brodie while doing their music degrees @ Duquesne in Pittsburgh.

George has a very good "smooth jazz" Christmas album available here or on iTunes. It plays throughout the Christmas season at our place. (His other albums are also worth checking out.)

A number of the Kinnons will be descending on the Furlows this time next week. And we are looking forward to it. Hope you enjoy the tunes above.

*Saxamaphone is what GP (Guinea Pig) called a sax on the multi-award winning kids' series, Once Upon a Hamster. (We won some of those awards for our work on that show.) GP's word has gotten stuck in my head.

A Little Christmas Music for You & Yours

In my DannyMac inspired attempt to be nice before Christmas (though I'm guaranteed coal in my stocking anyway), I thought I'd point you at a favourite Christmas album or two.

Number One at the Kinnon household is Handel's Messiah, A Soulful Celebration. Christmas begins with the Hallelujah Chorus cranked from whatever music delivering device is available.

Number Two would be Rob Mathes' William the Angel album. Elsewhere on this nanonode of the worldwide interwebs, I've pointed you at Rob singing Chris Falson's I See the Lord. Since we had the pleasure of working with Rob back in the early mid-nineties, he's gone on to become a well known arranger and producer.

But Chrismas remains a well-loved season for Rob, with his annual Chrismas concerts in Connecticut and/or New York. (One year we will be there.)

Number Three would be Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong, which plays throughout our Christmas iTunes playlist(s).

The poignant Joni Mitchell song, River, reminds us of those who don't necessarily find Christmas to be such a joyful season.

Number Four would be Michael McDonald - Imbi's and my favourite male vocalist, bar none. This clips features MMcD on ukelele of all instruments. (He must be a friend of Brad Boydston's.)

Guitarist Jason Carter in Toronto, November 11th

World-music guitarist, Jason Carter is in Toronto this Wednesday @ 7:30pm for a concert @ the George Ignatieff Theatre, Trinity College, University of Toronto. More information is here.

Various members of the Kinnon family have seen Jason numerous times as he's popped into Toronto - the first time in a private home in Leaside. He's a very gifted player. Liam and I will be at Wednesday's event.

The performance video below was shot over a year ago by me - early in Jason's experimentation with the harp guitar. Imbi and I also shot a conversation between Jason and John Franklin. John is the Executive Director of Imago - the arts organization staging the event @ the Ignatieff Theatre.
